INDICATIONS
The National
Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) support the use of bone
densitometry in both diagnosis and interval monitoring
of bone mass in the following groups patients:
- Women at or
after menopause, as the result of the study will
influence the decision for estrogen replacement
therapy or potential interventional therapy.
- Women who
have a family history of osteoporosis, early onset
menopause, or low body weight.
- Men and women
with vertebral abnormalities or x-ray evidence of
osteopenia.
- Men and women
receiving long-term corticosteriod therapy and anti
cancer therapy.
- Men and
women, with asymptomatic primary hyper-parathyroidism
in order to assess need for surgery.
